Reducing the Stress from Anxiety Triggers
When things are feeling out of sort I turn to the balance.
Am I doing to much of something, or is something weighing heavily that usually doesn't?
Right now it's SCHEDULING. I usually enjoy an organized calendar and routine, but a few crazy weeks had me overwhelmed. So I took a day off, headed downtown to wander with my baby and gave myself a pass for today.
The end of the school year and the end of summer/ beginning of school year definitely lead to more scheduling, which has a big effect on my anxiety. I have very specified anxiety that came with postpartum issues, and planning things when future timing or events are ambiguous is THE THING that really makes me spiral fast. More events, more activities to close, and what feels like a million things decide upon for the next seasons, but not enough info to feel like I can make clear choices. Yikes!
These suggestions could easily be applied to any anxiety triggers, just insert yours!
I've found that I do better when:
1. I set a certain time aside each week to look into schedules and then move on to another activity to clear my mind.
2. Put items IMMEDIATELY into my calendar upon receiving a text or email, no matter how small.
3. Do not schedule before bed.
It can lead to staying awake later than planned, or disrupting sleep due to anxious thoughts/planning.
4. Set deadlines for long-term decisions.
Don't have to decide for three weeks? Decide now and be done with it! Unless you are truly waiting on a game-changing factor, decide now and let your mind space be free of it!
I love the city, and the morning enjoying its calm was just what I needed! What is a place you enjoy to find some balance?!
