Of Course We Won't All Paint the Same Picture
Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.
- Vincent Van Gogh
Oh, how I love how different my kids are.
When did you realize how differently every person works?
I feel like there was such a large amount of time when that consideration wasn't on my mind as much.
Its NUTS how much I learn from these little ones and I’m so grateful it gives me insight into how other people go about thinking and doing.
Ad learns things slowly, gradually, with effort, to mastery. Char here just must have wheels turning in her mind that I can’t see because her skills come on *suddenly*. Like, I worried she'd be years behind in school and within a week she just knew the letters. Within a month went from zero writing to all of it! Before Saturday she hated bikes and would barely touch them. And now she’s sooo funny and zooming around the park on a balance bike pretending she’s pedaling a real bike, feet in midair.
I feel like it was a gift I've been given, and I'm so grateful for it. Understanding peoples emotions has always come easy to me, and I'm grateful now with kids, and in my job, to learn more about how people really function. SO differently than one another. Ain't a shabby tool to have in the tool box.
My brothers death led me to always have "You don't know what they're going through," in the back of my mind--leading me to be thousands of times more considerate of peoples hidden thoughts and emotions. My Charlotte has led me to have "They may be seeing it completely differently than I am," added to that. How grateful I am to gain these insights that help me understand all those around me every day.
Everyone is working on their small things, putting together the picture of their life. We're all just doing it a little bit different. We are lucky to be witnesses of their art. Of course we won't all paint the same picture.
