Barrett's TOP TEN

Barrett here...

When I turn on the TV and look through the guide, each time I see some sort of a countdown and I find myself always tuning in to see what is #1. Top ten countdowns to me are great because you can agree or disagree with them. It makes you think and that is what I like. So I wanted to start making some top ten lists and hopefully all that see it could put their input and it will start some good thoughtful conversations.

I wanted to start with the TOP TEN TV SHOWS. I thought this would be a good start because there are so many shows and lots of different tastes so with any luck we will have lots of different list from everybody. Now I will say that I can perceive that there will three shows not on my list that some people will be mad at. It is not because I don’t like these shows but I have not seen them yet. These shows would be: “Mad Men”, “Sopranos” and “The West Wing.” I heard these are some of the best so if you have seen them, put them on your list. Also there are some shows that I am too young for like “Cheers” that I only have seen a couple episodes on nick at night. Anyway here is the list and a small explanation of why they are great to me.

Honorable mentions: Friends, 30 Rock, The Daily Show, The Apprentice (non celebrity editions), Modern Family, The Amazing Race

10.) House: Though the show has a simple formula (in early seasons) I really love how House talks to everyone. “Maybe it’s Lupus?”

9.) The Office (American version)- Michael Scott is probably one of the funniest characters ever created and at first this show wasn’t on the list but I can watch some episodes over and over again and they still make me laugh.

8.) 24 – Jack Bauer’s shot first ask questions later makes for a great 24 hours worth of action. The first season was great with a surprise ending. Seasons after, besides much doubt, impressed me just as much. I haven’t seen recent seasons and maybe that’s a good thing

7.) Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) – Crappy movies with very funny commentary makes for a great show. Some of my favorites are “Space Mutiny”, “Final Sacrifice”, “Future War”, “Prince of Space” and “Jack Frost.”

6.) LOST – The first two seasons might be some of the best television ever. I really enjoyed the ride they took us on but seasons four and six are the reasons why LOST is only number six.

5.) Arrested Development – Each character in this show makes me laugh. The Bluth Family brings me entertainment each time I watch the series (I have seen the whole series 5 plus times)

4.) Dexter - Dexter Morgan, a blood spatter-pattern analyst for the Miami Metro police, moonlights as a serial killer. "Twist!" Dexter has the great writing and great acting. Season one and four are maybe the best things i have ever seen. But because seasons two and three were only ok, Dexter is only number 4 on my list.

3.) Seinfeld – Number two and three are pretty much a tie but if since I have to choose I am putting Seinfeld at #3. Who knew a show about nothing would be so funny. I can watch episodes of Seinfeld over and over again and they still make me laugh. Is this one of the best shows ever? “All signs point to yes!”

2.) Survivor - All the strategy, deal making, lying and deceiving makes this show so great to me. I love to think about what I would do in their situations and I find myself thinking about it all week. Plus Jeff Probst is my hero

1.) The Simpsons – This show has played a big part in my life. I know many things because of The Simpsons. This show still makes me laugh and entertains me all 22 years of my life. With millions of great quotes and funny moments this show is my Favorite show on television. Which may lead to another top ten list of the Best Simpsons episodes.

Well that’s my list. Hopefully you have thought about what you would put in your top ten. Post it in a comment or say why you disagree or agree with any of my choices. Let the debate begin.

I definately agree with a lot of your choices Bear, but not putting Friends in your top 10 should be considered a crime. And even though it is still fairly new, Modern family would have to be in mine. This is a fun game.

Ah, I've been waiting for this. Mad Men and the West Wing are definitely at the top of my list. You need to get on that.
